We stepped out of the loungeroom and onto the stage again yesterday at the Gold Coast Show, George Martin Stage. It was a really nice stage in an area with lots of food venues so people were sitting around munching on the traditional Pluto Pups and drinking cups of coffee. It was right on sunset when we set out to WOW the audience with our 4 songs and I must say the sound guy looked very relieved that we had no instruments to plug in after having had lots of problems through the day!
It was good to be on stage again and we were feeling particularly inspired after seeing the Idea of North last night! We started off with Denko - Tanna always does an amazing job opening with this song! We also sang Kingdom of Shy, Take A Chance on Me and finished with Thats the Way, just as the last of the daylight was fading.
We had loud cheers from our groupies - thanks Sue and Patty! We also had an enthusiastic young man dancing down the front of the stage which was very encouraging!
Afterwards - Tanna headed off to see powderchair, Mike and Dan went off to a Meta4 rehearsal and after two rides on the Cha Cha I came home to a nice glass of champagne, very contented even if a little bruised!
Hope to see you out and about soon!
Love,
Jacqui

Jacq, Dan and I, plus bits of the family and some of meta4 (Dan and my barbershop quartet) went to check out Idea of North singing at the beautiful Nairn theatre at All Saints School in Merrimac QLD on Thursday 30th. All the usual singing groupies were there, Brett Logan from the Blenders, George Frame even turned up (haven’t seen him in years) + some of the guys from Rosella Jam - Josh, Joe, Marsha, Catherine and Margaret.
What a night!
ION had been work-shopping vocals all day with the choirs from All Saints and The Southport School (TSS) - At the concert, the first half had the choirs singing, and the various school brass bands decided to get up and strut their stuff as part of the first half program. A high point was a Charles Mingus jazz number by TSS - really outstanding. Also featuring was Rob Goodale’s daughter (I think?) singing a solo number. First half finished off with ION singing Fragile with combined TSS and All Saints choirs in the background.
After the break, ION took to the stage and performed a fine set of music covering show tunes, haunting ballads, comedy routines and a spot of gospel. ION have a stand-in soproano who’s taking Trish’s place (maternity leave I think this year) and she did brilliantly, standing out on the vocalease number they did, (which for me was a highlight) and also the toy story 2 song “when we were young”…
After I got talking to Nick and we had a rave about Jon Hendricks (vocalease master from the 60’s) . Hoping to catch up with Nick in Sydney’s National barbershop convention where Dan and I will be competing with Meta4…
See ya soon,
Mikey
